John Jose received his B.S. in Biology and B.S. in Environmental Studies from East Stroudsburg University in 1986. As a field biologist he has worked on amphibian and reptile, mammal, and avian management projects, including bald eagle, osprey, common loon and river otter reintroduction, monitoring and assessment programs. He has also worked as a volunteer on breeding bird atlases, as well as projects to document amphibian and reptile species of conservation concern and vernal pools.
For eight years he worked for the Pike County Conservation District (PCCD), first as Education Coordinator and then as Watershed Specialist. At PCCD his experience included coordinating and delivering a diverse education outreach program, as well as implementing the District’s county-wide, stream-based, water quality monitoring program.
He has also published articles on various environmental issues in regional media and is an avid natural history photographer. In 2007, the Delaware Highlands Conservancy recognized John’s work in environmental education with an Excellence in Conservation Education Award for the Upper Delaware River region. In addition, a highly successful, golf course-based, bluebird nest box project he initiated was recognized by the PA Game Commission's Working Together for Wildlife program as a model for golf course-based nest box projects. He is proprietor of Otter Creek Environmental Education Services and works as a paraeducator at the Williamstown Middle/H.S. in Central Vermont. He resides in Barre, VT.
